Tele-Psychiatry

Telepsychiatry is a means of video conferencing that provides psychiatric services to patients living in remote locations or otherwise underserved areas the use of television cameras and microphones. At Empower Mental Health Clinic, we provide several services via telepsychiatry, including but not limited to diagnosis and assessment, medication management, and individual and group therapy. We are also able to provide for consultative services between our psychiatric providers, primary care physicians and other healthcare providers. Dr. Jenna provides forensic psychiatry consultation for criminal cases involving young adult and juvenile offenders, family law and civil legal matters, and teleconferencing has permitted her to provide consultation to an expanded geographic region, without the increased cost of repeated travel, making expert forensic psychiatric assessment less cost-prohibitive, and accessible to more children and families. Sometimes, Dr. Jenna is able to provide patients with second opinions when they reside in areas where only one psychiatrist is available. Telepsychiatry has been shown to improve collaborative services between professionals. Studies indicate that healthcare professionals feel telepsychiatry has given them an opportunity to work more effectively as a team, and this mirrors my person experience. Patients surveyed say they felt that the communication between their physicians had improved their outcomes.

Who We Are

As a Wisconsin Child Psychiatrist, Dr. Jenna recognized that access to mental health care in Wisconsin is a problem, and was determined to open a mental health clinic that would enhance the mental health and wellness of children and families in central Wisconsin. Our clinical team includes a psychiatrist (on a consultative basis), a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and therapists from various disciplines, . We are a warm, compassionate group of people who think “outside the box”. We are committed to lifelong learning and provide evidence-based assessment and treatment to you and your family members who seek our guidance. We believe that treatment is collaborative, and that the children, adolescents, adults and families who come to work with us are a part of the treatment team. We will find out what your concerns are, what your goals are, and develop a treatment plan with you. We believe that it is not our job to “connect the dots” or “turn the pages” for you. We hope to empower you to turn the pages for yourself, and appreciate your willingness to allow us to be a part of your life’s story. Our clinic provides evidence-based therapies including Theraplay-based family counseling (which was recently given SAMSHA’s highest endorsement for a trauma-sensitive, evidence-based intervention for children and families), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Mindfulness-informed CBT. All of our clinicians have received training in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI; an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children).
